The month of July just smacks of summer, bright sunshine, the smell of BBQ and a month ripe with freshest ingredients necessary for the best pies ever from the Little Fruit Pie Company.
Even though the season started a little late, its been a great year for Strawberries and they're still ripe for picking! Take advantage of double dipping now as Raspberries are available for pick your own or by the flats on farms from Abbottsford to the coast.
Since June 30th, my ovens have been running non stop to start supplying local markets and cafes with the best baked goodies of the summer. Everything from fresh fruit pies to Galettes and rustic tarts, pecan pies, cookies, biscotti and other homemade treats! (i've actually blown the convection element in one of my ovens, it will be repaired for next week!)
I get asked all the time to share both my recipes and my picks for the best berries so I'll try and keep the posts regular so you can share in the same goodness I do!
If you want to pick a few berries for yourself, Here's some of the best spots close to the Massey Tunnel:

Ellis Farms/ Westham Island Herb Farm:
Shell Road Farms - Raspberries
Richmond Country Farms
...just an FYI, take the kids with you to both farm locations, they have live animals to visit and other family attractions!
My pies are available fresh baked every weekend at Richmond Country Farms at Steveston HWY and #99. Its best to stop by Friday or Saturday as they traditionally sell out. New this year are the Frozen Take 'n Bake pies that you will conveniently find in the freezers on the North Wall of the Market.

If you live in Langley, Frozen pies are stocked up in the freezers at the Ignite Cafe, on 204th between Douglas and the Fraser Hwy.

On the menu this week: Strawberry Rhubarb, Raspberry Rhubarb, Fresh Apple, Apple Raspberry & Apple Strawberry.

Serve warm with ice cream, whip cream, fresh fruit, cheese, yoghurt or creme fraiche.   With the Galettes, fill the center with any of those ingredients then slice and serve. Garnish with a drizzle of Vanilla syrup, a sprig of fresh mint or basil.
Nothing says summer like a piece of pie!
Till next time, you'll find me in the kitchen.

Cheers, Joanne  :)
